If you submit your claims electronically through a clearinghouse, you can create an electronic claim file at the same time as printing the claims. If you don't want to actually print the claims when generating the file, just preview them instead.

Create a print image file matching the printed claims

Check this box to create the print image electronic claim file.

File Name

This is the complete path and file name of the print image file. The program will remember the path of the last file you generated on this computer and will use it. The file name always defaults to the date and a two digit sequential number. The file name format is YYYYMMDD-##.cms. The sequential number starts with 00 and goes up to 99 so that you can create up to 100 claims on this date without duplicating a file name.

If you want a different path or file name, enter them yourself or use the ellipses button to select a claim file name and path.

Terminator

The software program that reads your electronic claim file needs to have some way to tell when one claim ends and the next begins. The terminator is a string of one or more control characters. It is placed immediately after box 33b. The most common terminator is CR/LF/FF which means a carriage return, line feed, and form feed (page break). Most clearinghouse software is flexible enough to be configured for any of the terminator options.
